Hengstler RI58 High-Resolution Image

The incremental RI58 encoders from Hengstler not only feature a high resolution of 10,000 PPR, but also offer designers a wide range of flange and connection options. In the event of a potential malfunction, the encoders automatically trigger an alarm.

Hengstler has developed a special optical design to achieve the high precision of these encoders. For this reason, the scale of the encoders actually contains 10,000 physical lines. This sets them apart from many industrial encoders, which calculate the output value mathematically from a lower-resolution sine/cosine signal. “In developing the ICURO RI58, we pushed the limits of what is physically possible,” says Peter Elbel from Hengstler.

Thanks to the extremely detailed scale of the RI58 encoders, the output value is not affected unlike interpolated signals of many conventional encoders by factors such as temperature, load, or aging. The result is high-resolution angle measurement with consistently stable repeat accuracy.

If a malfunction does occur, the ICURO RI58 emits an optical signal or sends a notification to the higher-level control system. Ideal applications for these highly shock-resistant encoders include machine tools, packaging machines, injection molding machines, sawing machines, as well as CNC axes and motors.
