New Electronic Nameplate Optimizes Drive Performance

Free registration for the online presentation now available

Significantly faster motor commissioning, more efficient machines, and high flexibility in component selection: the open electronic nameplate will bring many advantages to machine builders and users alike. On June 23, 2022, VDMA and the Research Association for Drive Technology e.V. will present the first demonstrator to the professional community. Hengstler’s cross-manufacturer, high-performance SCS open link motor feedback interface plays a central role in this.

The new electronic nameplate will greatly accelerate the commissioning of encoderless drives. Thanks to SCS open link, frequency converters will in the future automatically recognize the connected motor and configure it with the optimal parameters—regardless of the manufacturer. Currently, this is only possible if the converter and drive come from the same supplier. Drives from other manufacturers must still be manually configured for the respective converter in a time-consuming process. Installation effort is also reduced because Hengstler’s open SCS open link motor feedback interface enables the transmission of motor data via the drive’s connection cable. Additional wiring is no longer necessary.

For machine builders and their customers, the new electronic nameplate offers two more significant advantages: first, they will be able to select their drives purely based on performance in the future. They will no longer have to limit themselves to motors compatible with their converters. As a result, machines will become more efficient. Second, the universally readable nameplate makes it possible to monitor the condition of a drive train remotely. Potential performance losses can thus be detected early and counteracted with preventive measures. Remote monitoring is of interest not only to users but also to machine builders themselves, who can offer condition monitoring as a service and thereby expand their value chain. With Hengstler’s high-performance SCS open link motor feedback interface, the ideal conditions for these functions are in place.

The functionality of the new electronic nameplate can be experienced live on June 23: in an online event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., VDMA and the Research Association for Drive Technology e.V. will demonstrate the capabilities of the nameplate using a demonstrator.
