Function

The encoders are equipped with monitoring electronics that report significant operating errors via a separate alarm output.

The alarm output can be used to control an optical display (LED; circuit see above) or the controller (PLC or similar).

In the same way, the alarm outputs of several encoders can be connected in parallel to form a common "system alarm".

The following errors are reported:

Category I errors cannot be corrected, the encoder must be replaced.

Category II faults are detected by means of a thermal monitoring unit in the electronics. The error message disappears after the cause of the temperature increase has been eliminated.

Category III faults indicate an insufficient power supply. In this category, even brief disturbances of the power supply, e.g. due to electrostatic discharges, which can falsify the output signals, are reported.

Remedy is achieved by eliminating the influence of the interference, e.g. by careful selection of the cable routing.
